Focus Areas

As the Internet Age made the USP of CED ( the clippings file on all contemporary development issues) redundant,  your doccentre, looked for insight in the information. To this end CED started focusing on critical issues and took up programmes of study, research, re-packaging information.  We started using all the new media - from texts, graphics, photos, multimedia, PPTs to video, publications, content management system. More importantly we started working in networks and with other organisations to directly address their knowledge and information handling and processing needs.

The centre of focus is socially just, environmentally sustainable and democratic economic alternatives.  This takes us to three critical areas of enquiry and  engagement.  Climate Change and search for a just and viable solution takes us to a critique of development, economic order and governance, and a low carbon regime.  This brings us straight to the door of New Economics or Economic Democracy, or alternative economics.  Civil Society, particulary NGOs have been social innovators and demonstrated several models and systems. These have been taken forward by several Social Entrepreneurs who have sought to scale their innovations, and bring it to the market-place.  CED as an information-education institution in the civil sector will play its part in coalescing these hitherto sporadic efforts into a larger viable sustainable development construct.

Focus Area - Civil Society

As an NGO for over thirty years, CED has been involved in the field of information and knowledge on development and change in Civil Society. While the issue of development and equity has been brought out strongly by our involvement in Climate Change, the issue of knowledge in civil society that shows pathways for an alternative development .

Focus Area - New Economics

Rajni Bakshi , one of CED’s trustees works on new economics.

our aim is to register and strengthen the local economics such that they are counted, and resilient to the damaging effects of the dominant economy.

Focus Area - Climate Change

Climate Change is one of CED's  major focus areas.

Our work on Climate Change includes documentation, study and research, workshops, preparation and dissemination of educational materials.. which also took care of specific requirements of three of the networks which we were involved in - Ritimo, KICS, and INECC.
