For the first time in the history of the world, every human being is now subjected to contact with dangerous chemicals, from the moment of conception until death. In less than two decades of their use, synthetic pesticides have been so thoroughly distributed throughout the animate and inanimate world that they occur virtually everywhere. Rachel Carson wrote these words in her famous book The Silent Spring in 1962.
More than four decades have passed. The production and use of these dangerous chemicals have multiplied several times since then. The poison has found its place in our vegetables, rice, wheat, fruits, tea, coffee, milk, fish, eggs, meat and all food products. Today, even a newborn baby gets a dose of pesticdes through mothers breast milk. While you are reading this, the dangerous chemicals are working within your body.
The pesiticides in your body can cause cancer, mental disorders, headache, vomiting, changes in heartbeat rate, muscle weakness, respiratory paralysis, convulsions, nervous system disorders, liver and kidney damage, respiratory problems, reproductive problems, coma and death. The effects of exposure to pesticide can be passed on from generation to generation.
Isnt it high time that we said no to synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilisers. Dont we have a right to eat food free from poison? Should we legitimate the distribution of the seeds of poison by consuming it? Do we and our future generations have a right to remain healthy?
