The full story of the killings of Dalits in Khairlanji and the societal divisions that cause them

Sometimes it's a severe pain in the chest, sometimes shortness of breath, other times dizziness, numbness,disorientation or loss of muscle control. These are symptoms of something seriously wrong, a warning of impending health crisis, a signal that something needs to change. In our collective experience known as political economy, we are experiencing symptoms of distress. The real estate bubble and subsequent bust, the financial meltdown, deepening recession and inflation are all telling us that something is wrong, that something needs to change.

It causes deep concern that the armed forces may have been penetrated by ideologically driven groups. One must beware of perverse patriotism, disturbing signs of which have been recently manifest. The arrest of an Army officer on suspicion of having assisted alleged Hindu right extremist terror bombings in Malegaon and possibly elsewhere appears sinister.

It is important to remove the distortions from the political process, rather than attempt to remove politics itself from decisions in the water sector. The World Bank\'s model has failed, and it is time to heed other voices.
