VANI's Annual National Convention &  AGBM 2007

Date: 17th & 18th December 2007,  Kolkata

Theme: National Policy on Voluntary Sector  & 11th Five Year Plan

Greetings from VANI!

This is to invite you to VANIs Annual  National Convention. The convention will be held in Kolkata on 17th & 18th  December 2007 and would
be based on the recently announced "National Policy on  Voluntary Sector and the 11th Five Year Plan".

The year 2007 has been special for the  voluntary sector for two reasons. Firstly, the Union Cabinet has formally  approved the long-awaited National Policy on the Voluntary Sector on May 17,  2007.  Secondly, the year marks the beginning of the 11th Five Year Plan  (2007-2012), which promises to encourage partnerships between Civil Society  Organizations and the government.

The National Convention 2007 aims to  engage the debate along these two themes, taking into account the need to  operationalise the National Policy on the Voluntary Sector which is committed to  "encourage, enable and empower an independent, creative and effective voluntary  sector, with diversity in form and function, so that it can contribute to the  social, cultural and economic advancement of the people of India". Further it  looks at integration of the 11th Five Year Plan with the policy, recognizing the  important role that the voluntary sector has to play in various areas and  affirming the growing need for collaboration with the voluntary sector by the  government, as well by the private sector, at the local, provincial and national  levels.

Your presence at the convention will give  encouragement and strength to VANI and its efforts in creating conducive  environment for civil society organizations. We trust you will block these dates  in your schedule and be a part of this change making process/initiative. May we  also request you to nominate your colleagues from your organization and other  NGO's for participation in this convention, in order to benefit from this  flagship event?
