Workshop on Video Documentation (Filmmaking) & Digital Technology
21st to 24th February 2009
at SIDH (near Mussoorie)
with Ankit Pogula and Anurag Sahay
Areas of training would include:
I. Film appreciation
• Understanding the medium of film – its impact and its outreach
• Film appreciation
II. Filmmaking and Video Documentation
• Handling a video camera and understanding visual aesthetics
• Basic Video Editing & process of making a film
• Video technology –Different Video Formats, Sound and light, Conversions
• Understanding Finances and Budgets for cameras, computers and making films
III. Digital Technology and Computer skills
(separate sessions
will be conducted for participants who would like to familiarize
themselves with computer technology. The sessions will be customized
based on the different needs and skills of the participants)
• Demystifying multimedia & computers,(Audio/Video/Graphics - File Formats & Compressions)
• Understanding fundamentals of Digital & Media technology ( Digital & Analog Media)
• Media & Data Storage
When: 21st (Saturday) to 24th (Tuesday) February (both days included).
Participants are requested to arrive either 20th night or latest by 7
am on the 21st. The workshop will begin on 21st morning. Workshop will
end on the 24th of February by 6 pm. Those who wish to leave the same
day, must ensure that their train/bus does not leave before 9.30 pm
from Dehradun, as it takes a minimum of two hours to reach from SIDH to
Dehradun.
Where: SIDH campus, Learning Resource Centre,
Kempty village, 15 kms ahead of Mussoorie

Language: The workshop will be facilitated in Hindi (bilingually if required)
For whom:
This workshop is targeted especially for organizations/individuals who
use the media of film to document their work and are interested in
making films to convey their organization's/their understanding
About the facilitators:
Ankit Pogula,an
independent film-maker and video trainer based out of SIDH, has been
engaging with youth groups on issues of Development, Identity,
Environment, Self and Media for the last 6 years. He has been also
conducting workshops on filmmaking and facilitating people with ideas
to make films using minimum resources.
Ankit Pogula, graduated in Economics from Fergusson College, Pune and
then studied film making (M.A. in Mass Communications) from Jamia Milia
Islamia, Delhi in 2005.
Anurag Sahay,
graduated from IIT Delhi in Computer Science (Bachelors in Technology)
in 1993. He worked as a technology architect with IBM in India and then
worked in the US with companies such as Ipsilon Networks, Nokia and
Microsoft from 1996 to 2006. He returned to India in 2006 and currently
is based out of Dehradun.
Anurag Sahay's interests are in teaching, computer training, exploring
and understanding self and working towards value-based education.
Fee: Rs 2500 per participant (includes boarding and lodging)
